LEGO Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1® Car Display — Every Formula 1 Season Deserves to Be Remembered

Formula 1 moves incredibly fast. One weekend you are celebrating a podium, and a few months later the car that fought through an entire season has already been replaced by something new. Regulations evolve, aerodynamic packages change, and even the smallest design details are refined before the next race begins.

For most teams, every new car is simply another step forward. For fans, however, each car becomes something else. It becomes a reminder of a season they followed from the first practice session to the final chequered flag.

That is why a LEGO Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1® Car Display feels different once the model is complete. It is not simply a replica of a Formula 1 car. It becomes a way of preserving an entire season.

LEGO 42240 at a Glance

Before talking about the display itself, it is worth appreciating what LEGO has created with this large-scale Technic model.

Detail Information

Set Number LEGO 42240
Scale 1:8
Pieces 1,547
Functions Steering, front and rear push-rod suspension, differential, two-speed gearbox, V6 engine with simulated electric motor, and working DRS
Theme LEGO Technic

Like other recent 1:8 Technic Formula 1 cars, LEGO 42240 is designed to be explored as much as displayed. Many of its most satisfying details are hidden beneath the bodywork, rewarding builders who enjoy understanding how racing cars are engineered rather than simply admiring how they look.

The Green That Formula 1 Fans Instantly Recognize

Every Formula 1 team has a visual identity. Ferrari has red. McLaren has papaya. Mercedes carries silver and black. For Aston Martin, it is British Racing Green.

Long before the modern Formula 1 era, Aston Martin's racing colours appeared at Le Mans and in endurance competition, becoming closely associated with British motorsport. Today, that deep green remains one of the easiest liveries to recognise anywhere on the Formula 1 grid.

That identity translates beautifully into LEGO 42240. Even before the sponsor decals are applied, the combination of the low nose, sweeping sidepods and unmistakable colour palette immediately tells you which team you are looking at.

It does not rely entirely on logos. The shape already tells the story.

Looking Beyond the Livery

One thing I did not fully appreciate until building the model was how much of a modern Formula 1 car is designed around airflow. Watching races on television, your attention naturally follows overtakes, strategy calls and lap times. Building LEGO 42240 slows everything down.

You begin to notice why the front wing stretches so wide, why the sidepods taper toward the rear, and why the engine cover narrows so aggressively behind the driver's helmet. Viewed from above, the entire car starts to resemble an airflow diagram more than a conventional racing machine.

That is probably why Formula 1 engineers spend thousands of hours working through CFD simulations and wind-tunnel testing. Speed begins long before the car reaches the circuit.

The Moment That Changed My Opinion

I expected the gearbox to be my favourite part of the build. It was not.

Surprisingly, the most memorable moment came much earlier. Once the suspension and central chassis were complete, but before the body panels were installed, the proportions of the AMR25 suddenly became obvious. Even without the green panels, it already looked unmistakably like a Formula 1 car.

That moment changed how I viewed the entire build. The bodywork is not what creates the car's identity. It simply reveals the engineering already underneath.

That is one of the reasons Technic models remain rewarding long after they are finished. Every time you look at them, another design decision begins to make sense.

Three Different Ways to Appreciate LEGO AMR25

Different display styles change the way you experience the same model. LEGO Aston Martin AMR25 wall display frame for Formula 1 collectorsA shelf encourages you to examine the mechanisms, while a desk brings the car closer to eye level. Wall mounting shifts the focus again, revealing the complete silhouette in one view.

Display Style What You Notice Most
Shelf Suspension, steering and mechanical functions
Desk Three-quarter angles and race-car presence
Wall Display Overall proportions and aerodynamic profile
Complete F1 Collection Team identity within an entire Formula 1 season

Personally, the wall display feels the most natural. Formula 1 cars are designed around airflow, and looking straight down from above reveals proportions that are difficult to appreciate on a crowded shelf.

Instead of becoming another LEGO model, the car begins to resemble a technical illustration brought into three dimensions.

Why We Designed the Background This Way

When we started developing the DIA frame, we intentionally avoided creating another race-circuit illustration. There is no Monaco, Silverstone or Suzuka in the artwork.

Every Formula 1 fan has a favourite circuit, but the engineering behind the AMR25 belongs to every race on the calendar. Instead, the background uses narrow vertical gradients that suggest airflow, speed and movement without tying the display to one particular weekend.

The colour transitions move through dark green, blue and a warmer yellow-green glow, echoing Aston Martin's racing identity while creating enough contrast for the model to remain the visual centre of the composition.

The Formula 1 and Aston Martin marks stay near the upper edges, while the team identity runs vertically along the right side. At the bottom, the restrained ASTON MARTIN AMR25 label works almost like a museum caption. These details give the frame context without competing with the car.

Negative space was equally important. The front wing, tyres and rear section all need room around them, especially in a top-down display. Crowding the model would make the frame feel busy and weaken the clean aerodynamic outline.

Another small detail became important during development: when the LEGO model is removed, the frame still works as a complete piece of artwork. Rather than looking unfinished, the background continues to resemble a minimalist Aston Martin poster, with only two discreet mounting points remaining visible.

We liked that idea. A display frame should still feel intentional, even when the car is not attached to it.

One Team, or an Entire Season?

Something interesting happens once collectors buy their second Formula 1 model. The collection quietly changes direction. It stops being only about one favourite team.

Ferrari joins Aston Martin. McLaren appears alongside Mercedes. Williams, Red Bull Racing and other teams gradually fill the wall.

At that point, the models begin telling a different story. Not the story of one car, but the story of an entire Formula 1 season.

That is something we have noticed repeatedly at DIA. People may begin with the team they support, yet many eventually become interested in the grid as a whole. Each car recalls different drivers, races, liveries and engineering approaches.

Displayed together, they become a visual archive of Formula 1 itself.

More Than Lap Times

Years from now, few people will remember every qualifying result from the AMR25 season. They probably will not remember every upgrade package either.

What they may remember is the feeling: watching Fernando Alonso fight through another difficult weekend, following Lance Stroll's season, and seeing the familiar green car line up on the grid once again.

That is what a LEGO Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1® Car Display quietly preserves. Not only the machine, but the memories attached to it.

Perhaps that is why some Formula 1 models deserve more than shelf space. They deserve a place where every passing glance brings back another race weekend.

At DIA, we believe every Formula 1 display should preserve two things equally well: the engineering that shaped the car, and the season that gave it meaning.
